Veteran

The novel Veteran is conceived as a drama–mystery, with horror elements as its sub-genre. The story takes place between 1991 and 2022, first in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, and later within the sovereign states of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia.

The narrative follows a middle-aged soldier whose psychological health has been damaged by both traumatic and supernatural experiences. The traumas he endured during the aggression of the Yugoslav People’s Army against Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995 irreversibly tear apart his soul. As a result, he becomes prone to vices and self-destruction, hoping for an end to his agony. His family and friends try, each in their own way, to help him overcome the crisis and confront his painful past. Throughout the novel, the forces of good and evil, religion and science, and national fervor and a sense of guilt and conscience are in constant conflict.

The novel is dedicated to all young soldiers—regardless of their national or religious background—who lost their health or their lives in the armed conflicts on the territory of the former Yugoslavia. More broadly, it is a story about all individuals, and groups of individuals, who were sacrificed for higher political goals.
